King family
We are The Kings and boldly proclaim that our God is an awesome God! In 2006 we were a family of four. There was me, my wife, and our two children. Carley was nine and Mason was six.
We discussed, as a family, whether it was a good time to have another baby. We knew that we wanted more children. We prayed and felt God was not leading us in this traditional direction. We have many friends in our church body that have fostered and/or adopted. After hearing their stories and seeing the fruits of their love, we knew without a doubt what God expected from us. We did not know it then, but God was leading us down the most challenging and wonderful adventure of our lives. We discussed the idea of adoption with our children and they felt equally excited about the idea that we could bless a child the way our Lord had blessed our family. We found the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange (T.A.R.E.) online and reserved a spot at their orientation meeting for new prospective adoptive parents. It was at this meeting that we met with a Kornerstone representative, and that was an answer to our prayers.

Many months and course studies later, we were licensed through Kornerstone as an adoptive family. We were very broad with our selection for the type of child we would consider. We, like many families, would frequently inquire through Kornerstone about the children on the T.A.R.E. site. We learned, through time and emotional ups and downs, that this is not the best way to allow God to be in control. It was after submission to what God knew was best that we received our little blessing. Gabrielle, or “Gabby”, was seven years old at the time when we received the call that our home study was selected and we were the blessed family that would receive this little princess. Gabby had a very complex past and like many children in foster care, needed extensive counseling and other forms of therapy. Gabby was in her fifth foster group home in only four years. Although most of our friends and family were supportive of our decision to adopt, some would express concern and ask us if we were worried about the “baggage” that comes with Gabby’s past. We have learned that not all “baggage” is bad. God will do the healing where the bad is concerned, but what we have been overwhelmed with, is the good “baggage” that Gabby has brought into our family. Instead of us blessing Gabby, God has once again turned this into a blessing for us all.

Luke 18:27 Jesus replied, “what is impossible with men is possible with God.”

In Him,

Jamie, Charonne, Carley, Gabby and Mason King
